第一次看見Gehard Demetz的作品,瞬間產生了一種無法言喻的凝視感,那稚嫩童顏與利器之間的極端對比,彷彿只有獨自聆聽Portishead那種黑不見底的悲傷可以比擬。是不是也有種說不出的紛雜感受積聚在咽喉當中,而幾乎忘記了呼吸?

這些都很可能是你第一以看見Gehard Demetz木雕作品時心裡所低鳴的形容詞,或者應該說,有太多種不同的感覺一起湧現,但可以確定的是,沒有一個感覺是正向的,因為每尊佈滿間隙的兒童木雕,都訴說著極其黑暗的傷悲。

Gehard Demetz的現代木雕作品非常特殊,他運用木條組合成所需要的雕塑體積,並巧妙地留下木條之間的間隙(間隙都精準地出現在面孔或肢體),再將木頭雕出如同陶瓷般稚嫩的童顏與肢體,對比上非常粗糙殘破的衣著,肢體動作及面容都如同瞬間被木化的兒童,散發出一股鬼魅般的感受,彷彿無盡的憂傷與黑暗秘密,都將從木條之間的空隙四散而出,再也無法壓抑。

Gehard出神入化的木雕技術以及如同揭秘黑暗謊言般的主題,完美地貫穿著每尊栩栩如生的木雕當中,尤其是孩童們那即將要接受折磨般的肢體與所附帶的器物,張力之大讓人感到無法置信,好像自己心裡最黑暗的秘密與苦痛,就這麼體現在木化的孩子身上。
